I'm thrilled to announce that on December 5th I'll be speaking at Glasgow Vegfest.
My speech title: "How Not To Promote Veganism."
Becoming and being vegan are thoughtful acts; by doing them we commit to living thoughtfully. But do we do enough to be thoughtful in our advocacy? How can we ensure that our intention to live thoughtfully is really borne out in what we promote? In this speech I explore how certain types of advocacy are not in fact consistent with thoughtfulness and can actually harm our cause. By highlighting the problems with common advocacy methods - from naked advertising to violent campaigning - I suggest a considered, an inclusive, and, most importantly, an effective approach to vegan advocacy.
